"I'll be clinging on for all I'm worth," says Margaret Sleeman who at 81 is about to try out a new adventure - microlight flying.

Mrs Sleeman is taking to the skies above Newnham with local farmer Robert Hinds on August 16 with the aim of enjoying a bird's eye view of the Forest and to help swell the funds of the Great Oaks Hospice Appeal.

"I'm not sure what I have let myself in for but I don't think I am as brave as my neighbour Jeanette Gardiner who recently did a parachute jump. I have no intentions of letting go – in fact I'll be clinging on for all I'm worth," said Mrs Sleeman.

Well known as the former chairman of Coleford magistrates, Mrs Sleeman says she is much too busy to be bored and has many interests including the University of the Third Age, the WI and church activities.

"It will be a wonderful opportunity to have a look at Newnham from a different perspective," said Mrs Sleeman.
