MARK Eynott, 12, from Sling, has enjoyed another successful season karting at the Castle Combe Circuit competing against 66 drivers for the Spring Junior Karting Championship.

Mark had competed in the previous season and was awarded "Rookie of the Year." The competition this year, spread over ten rounds, was even tougher.

Never out of the top six drivers, Mark secured five podium finishes, two first, two second and one third, and, going into the final round, Mark was in second place but any one of five drivers could have secured the championship.

Mark won three of his heats but was just edged out of pole position on the final grid by Will Foulkes who was one point behind him.

Will, Mark and Gareth McBraida stormed off the start line and quickly pulled clear of the chasing pack. The race was fast and furious with every chance of overtaking being strongly defended, and it was only down to their skill and race craft that there was not a major incident with all three being involved and ruining a fantastic finale.

They raced side-by-side, three abreast at times, and nose to tail, for the entire race but at the chequered flag it was Will Foulkes who secured the victory and Mark who had to content himself with second place.

A great finish to a hard and well-contested season.

Mark has become well known and had been easy to pick out on the circuit thanks to his pink helmet, personalised by AutoArt Bodyshop Ltd of Lydney. As this was to be his last championship at Castle Combe, the officials and his competitors all signed their names on it as a memento!

Mark is now moving on to Rotax MiniMax and has joined the Clay Kart Shop Team.

Mark and his dad, Dick, would welcome additional sponsorship – for details visit http://www.markeynott.co.uk">www.markeynott.co.uk
