VISITORS to Coleford on May 4 can expect a full Star Wars-themed experience as the town celebrates its links to The Force Awakens.
Nearby Puzzlewood, with its atmospheric scowles, was used as a backdrop for the 2015 film.
The day will feature decorated shop fronts, shop traders in fancy dress, themed giveaways, services and special offers include a butcher offering ‘Dark Vader sausages’ and ‘Chew Baccy’ burgers and a salon offering nail art and themed hand-treatments.
A fancy dress parade will also run through the town with prizes supported by Coleford Town Council. Studio Cinema brings the event to a fitting close with a one-off showing of The Force Awakens.
In preparation for the event, a Star Wars costume-making workshop will take place at the Forest Activities Festival at Speech house on Sunday, April 24.
Ian Officer, chair of the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Tourism Association, says: “We are delighted that Coleford is taking such a proactive role in developing local tourism, first with the opening of the tourist information centre and now with these celebrations.
“It makes the area more vibrant and exciting for visitors and locals alike. We have seen increased visitor numbers following the launch of Star Wars and have worked hard to maximise the impact.”
