TWO Lydney businessmen will be driving a 4x4 originally owned by the late famous rally car driver Colin McRae at the World Rally Championship this weekend.

Chris Hands and Spencer Price, from gates and automation specialist TPS, will be taking part in their first Wales Rally GB. It’s the final round of the World Rally Championship.

The event will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the late, great, Colin McRae becoming world rally champion.

Operations manager, Chris said: “Colin McRae originally owned the Land Rover as part of his collection, it was used as recce car, and it would have been used on rally stages but not competitively. So he didn’t win anything in it.

“Spencer borrowed the car (from its previous owner and personal friend from Chepstow) to do this year’s Wyedean Rally, he then bought the car in March 2015.

“Our event covers more than 600 road miles and 100 competitive rally stage miles over the three days from November 13.

“The event has a ceremonial start on the North Wales coastline at Llandudno tomorrow (Thursday), before the action starts in the Welsh forests on Friday and over the weekend.”
