AT THE risk of receiving the sort of criticism the Review fielded for daring to suggest not all motorcyclists were squeaky clean, highly responsible and safe riders, I would like to add to the discussion.

I have nothing against motorcycles. Indeed, for many years I rode one myself, though not, more is the pity, one of the powerful machines available today. They look and sound brilliant!

It is the latter that slightly miffs me. When you are watching and expecting it, the sound of a high-powered bike still gives me a thrill. But not so on a gentle afternoon out when a youngster, thinking he is on the Isle of Man circuit, rips by at an unguessable rate of knots. I would like to meet the driver who can honestly say he has not had the fright of his life administered by a rider who has appeared on his tail from nowhere and overtook as though he was answering the world's greatest emergency.

On the one hand I want to say "I wish it was me" on that bike. But age now tells me: "Slow down son, there's always tomorrow." – Name and Address supplied
