SOME £1,015 has been raised to support this year’s Coleford Music Festival.

Debbie Hutchinson organised a music quiz for the event and around 37 teams took part. Coleford Music Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday July 16 and 17.

Festival co-director, Nick Penny said: “We are extremely grateful to Debbie, Pete Stead (DJ) and Forest Hills Golf Club for supporting us and also to Greenacres and Forevergreen for sponsoring the £100 cash prize for the winning team.

“The way our community has come together to support the return of the music festival is something that everyone should be proud of and vital fundraising events, such as this quiz, really help the future sustainability of the festival.

“The money will be specifically used to fund musicians to perform on the main stage to ensure an eclectic mix of music to create a true festival feel.”

Thoughts are also turning to the fifth Coleford Busking Festival on Saturday, June 4.

The festival, which is fully funded by Coleford Town Council, features an open-mic stage and various ‘busking points’ in and around the town centre. It is the first of three busking festivals being planned in the region this year, with events also set for Monmouth on July 23 and Ross-on-Wye on Sunday, August 28.

Nick added: “Over the last few years the event has been a huge success with performers travelling from across the county to perform. Musicians of all abilities and genres are welcome.

“The festival was created in 2012 to bring some life back into Coleford and has grown year on year – there is also now also an annual Monmouth Busking Festival which was inspired by this event, a new event planned for Ross-on-Wye this August and early talks are underway to take the format to France in 2017.”
