MEMBERS of the Forest Musical Society – formed with the aim of bringing two musicals to the stage every year – are to bring the hit 'Oklahoma!' to Lydney on three days in October.

It follows the success they achieved with their recent production of 'Fiddler on the Roof' at the Town Hall.

And anyone with a love of musicals can join in the production.

A spokesman for the society says: "New members are always welcome whether to join the cast or help backstage.

"Auditions are not required, though they are held for anyone wanting a principal part."

Rehearsals for the hugely popular Rodgers and Hammerstein musical will begin at Lakers School Hall on June 12 at 7pm. It features well known songs such as 'Oh, What a Beautiful Morming' and 'The Surrey with the Fringe on Top' and was an instant hit when first performed in America in 1943, running for five years on Broadway.

The society plans to use the best of local talent to bring 'live' theatre to the Forest.

Chairman Peter Silsby says he is delighted that Ian Russell, who played such a large part in the success of 'The Pirates of Penzance' will be the musical director for 'Oklahoma!'

He added: "We are also very fortunate to secure the services of Emily Spry to be our stage director. Her enthusiasm and passion is bound to create an exciting show. Tobias Napleton is staying on as our rehearsal pianist for which the society is very grateful."

Most of the talented cast from 'Fiddler on the Roof' will also be taking part in 'Oklahoma!' and they will be accompanied by an orchestra of local musicians. The Lydney dates are Thursday, Friday and Saturday October 25, 26 and 27.
