AT least 40 cats who are being cared for by Cats Protection are in desperate need of rehoming.
Staff and volunteers at the Forest charity are struggling to keep up with demand as more cats are coming to them.
Joyce Moss, at Cats Protection, said: "Our cats range from the one year olds like Belle and Mitzi, whose owner became too ill to look after them, to eight-year-old torties, Hazel and Pudding, and young gingers, Minnie and Billy, whose owners have died.
"These cats have all been given a clean bill of health by local vets and have been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Now all they need are new homes."
Some of the staff have even taken in the cats like lost and found officer, Karen Williams, from Bream, who has taken five-year-old Bailey in until a suitable new owner is found.
Joyce added: "Bailey is a handsome white and ginger cat, very friendly and cuddly, often asking for fuss. He is confident and likes to be involved in whatever Karen is doing. He enjoys his food, comes when called and is allowed outside in Karen's garden. He would suit pensioners or a quiet environment and would be a very loyal companion."
