Plans are moving at a pace for the opening of a new Tourist Information Centre in Coleford on March 19. The centre, located at 4 Lords Hill, will be open initially six days per week – rising to seven days in the peak tourist season – and managed by Coleford Town Council.
This news comes as the Forest awaits the opening of Puzzlewood, this Saturday, February 13. This is expected to draw large numbers of Star Wars fans, following the release of the film at Christmas.
Cllr Nick Penny, Deputy Mayor of Coleford told us: “The council are working extremely hard to market Coleford and what it has to offer to Tourists visiting our region.
“Last year we produced a new visitor guide for the town which included details of local accommodation providers, places to visit and details of our heritage. This year we are focusing our efforts on the opening of a fully staffed Tourist Information Centre and increasing our town centre events programme.”
He added: In order to run the tourist information centre as sustainably as possible we are appealing for local people who are passionate about the region to volunteer up to four hours a week to staff the centre.
“Volunteers should be able to communicate well, have basic computer skills and be able to make a regular commitment. In return Coleford Town Council will provide full training and refund travel and parking expenses.”
