THE 37th annual Newnham Show took place in the Armoury Hall on Saturday afternoon, with a huge array of fruit, vegetables, flowers, baking, preserves, arts and crafts showcasing the skills of local people.
Organiser Matthew Barnes said: “This was another excellent show from and for the community, with participants of all ages winning prizes and trophies. The committee was particularly pleased to see that this year’s better weather led to a larger number of fruit and vegetable entries. We also had lots of children taking part as well as people who had never entered before.
“Overall the number of entries continued to be high, and the quality made it very difficult for the judges to make their decisions. We’d like to thank vicar Rob James for his auctioneering skills, Vic and Maureen Townley, who have been show supporters for many years, and Barbara Lillwall for their very generous raffle prizes.
“We’d also like to thank the local businesses and residents who sponsored the show, and to those who generously donated their prize money back to us. We don’t have a final total yet, but have so far raised £307 towards the funding of the village hall.”
