WHAT on earth is going on in Newnham these days? The church bells are now being rung all through the night every night. Does the bell ringer have insomnia? I know I do.

Do we really need to have 12 loud dongs every midnight?

A 3am chorus which sounds like someone has dropped a load of bells down a long staircase?

Why is this happening? It sounds awful and it’s happening all through the night every night it seems.

We don’t even live that close to the church but it wakes us up so I can’t imagine how loud it must be for those next door.

Is everyone else ok with this? I have a digital clock, I have an alarm set.

We don’t tell the time by the church bells so why do we need to be told hourly what time it is?

Weddings, fine, the occasional special event where church bells are rung is lovely.

But this incessant nightly clanging has got to stop – I need sleep.
