YOUNG actors from the Savoy Youth Theatre in Monmouth have been supporting a professional cast in the theatre’s panto.
It is the ninth year in a row that the youngsters have performed supporting roles.
Among them was Forester Isla Corbijn, who stepped up from the chorus to a main role, as Susie Seashells, for the first time.
This year’s show was Spontaneous Productions’ version of Dick Whittington which provided non-stop laughs.
We meet Dick (Stuart Ash) in Gloucester, and discover that he would never have made it to London without a very sassy Cat (Emma MacNab).
When they arrive in London, cold and hungry, they discover that the streets are not ‘paved with gold,’ but meet the beautiful Alice Fitzwarren (Stephanie Wickmere), outside her father’s shop.
Alice takes a shine to Dick and offers him a job, despite the concerns of Aunty Gerty (Kevin Tillett) who tries to spoil things.
This story would not be complete without a Wicked Witch (Sarah Hancock) and her half-witted sidekick King Rat (Robert Traynor).
The Savoy Youth Theatre Academy is for young people between the ages of eight and 18 and is based at Singleton Court in Monmouth.
The group has two main performances a year at the Church Street theatre.
They also take part in community events throughout the year.
