HOPE that at least some of our district councillors and responsible officers watched last Sunday night's edition of Country File on BBC1 with their coverage of sinkholes and subsidence in various parts of the country and the devastating effects that can result.
It would be prudent for the district council to obtain a copy of this programme for the entire council to see.
I have been pointing out these dangers at Steam Mills for the last few years but little notice has been taken.
Perhaps with the BBC being involved greater respect of the situation may be forthcoming from all those responsible for approving the various building projects on this site.
Adequate warnings have been given with the collapse of Duck Pit a few years ago and only in the last couple of months a sinkhole in the Brierley area.
The latest rumours that are circulating from responsible members dealing with the Northern Arc is that the project should never have been contemplated on this site but the situation has gone too far to turn back – not a reassuring comment is it?
