I FEEL I must take issue with Conner Letheren and his letter re the Allaston development.

Many of the things about it are good especially the possibility of self-build plots.

The big objection is the location. This is not land scheduled for building. It will add congestion to all the surrounding roads.

It will put an additional strain on the school and doctors' surgeries.

There are already enough housing developments in the pipeline and unsold houses to last for several years.

There are not enough jobs for the current population.

He claims the 'popularity of the development truly exists within the community and many of his friends'.

He should talk to the people already living in the area and on the roads to Yorkley and into the Forest and see how many of them welcome the proposals.

Just where do he and his friends live? Nearby? I doubt it.

Allaston Road/Primrose Hill already resembles a continuous car park.

If he and his friends are young they will presumably be starting families.

How are the maternity ambulances going to get through – or the fire engines and other services?

He talks about the site being suitable for all ages and retirement homes.

The steep nature of this area makes it highly unsuitable for elderly and infirm people unless they can drive.

This means even more cars on the roads – or does he suggest the old people should be housebound?

No, Mr. Letheren. Have your multiple purpose development but put it somewhere else.
