This remarkable photograph taken in the Forest last week sent Review reporter Chantelle Farmer scurrying to her computer to find the collective noun for a gathering of boar.

To save you a search and to enable you to test out the knowledge of the person nearest to you who has yet to read the paper, the word you are seeking is ‘sounder’. It is the collective for a group of 12 or more boar.

We hesitate to call them ‘wild’ as the photographer, local postman Dave East, was surrounded by at least 40 animals.

He said: “As I got out of the van they all came around me looking very much as though they expected to be fed.”

The gathering was snapped on the edge of Church Hill Enclosure between Parkend and Moseley Green.
