THE industrial units at Princess Royal pithead with a large area around was evacuated on Tuesday morning after a worker carrying out groundwork stumbled on a Second World War bomb.

The police were called and they created an exclusion zone for a large part of the site while the bomb disposal service was alerted.

"It was quite frightening. We didn't want to stay around," said one worker who telephoned the Review. She estimated up to 30 people were working in the area at the time and they had all been moved out at around 9.15am.

"I don't know what it looked like. I didn't want to stop and see," she said.

However when the bomb tram arrived it was quickly established the find was a bomb casing without its explosive filling, and the all-clear was given at around 9.50am.
