A CHEPSTOW business centre has seen a boost to its fundraising efforts thanks to businesses pulling together.

Basepoint Chepstow encourages businesses to work together and hosts regular networking events. As a result, they have received £155 for Cancer Research UK.

Basepoint Chepstow licensee, Andy Hosking of Severfield Plc, will be taking part in the Action Challenge London to Brighton Walk 100km route to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research, a charity close to his heart.

In 2010 Andy was diagnosed with eye cancer, which thankfully was caught and treated before too much damage was caused. Unfortunately the radioactive plaque applied to destroy the cancer has left him partially sighted. Additionally, his mother has now been diagnosed with cancer, which has prompted Andy to set a fundraising target of £2,000 for Cancer Research UK.

He said: “I received a call from my mum saying that following a recent scan, she has been diagnosed with cancer. Last month she started her first chemotherapy treatment, which will be followed by a further three sessions over the next 12 weeks and then radiotherapy.”

In order to help with this fundraising target, fellow licensee, JustIngredients, offered to hold a charity sale of their products within the centre. Thanks to the additional generosity of licensees in the centre who came to make a purchase, the sale raised £155.

Victoria Hockley, marketing manager at JustIngredients, said: “Our whole team were touched by Andy’s story and really wanted to do something to help. Thanks to everybody who was involved in the sale, we are delighted with the amount that was raised.”

Tina Colegate, centre manager at Basepoint Chepstow, added: “This is a fantastic show of cooperation and kindness between our licensees – a sign that our approach of building small to medium size business communities, rather than simply locating small businesses under one roof, really does pay dividends."
