AFTER reading letters about 5, Orchard Road and, of course, number seven which has become victim, I had to reply. I have listened to both sides of the argument.

I became a town councillor but had to retire because of my wife's illness, however I'm still president of Lydney Angling Club.

I hope what I have to say says it all. Not only have I spoken to Mrs Watts and her partner but also know what the former tenant of 5, Orchard Road has to say about this. She was offered temporary accommodation by Two Rivers while they repaired it.

She decided she was happy with the place she was moved to and all work stopped. Two Rivers left a container in her garden for two years. I know this because I live in the road adjoining Orchard Road and I could see the container from my own living room.

I'm not saying that Two Rivers are not caring – they have done good for many people. What I am saying is that in some cases they can be wrong. This is one of them. Number 5 Orchard Road can be renovated and be made fit to live in.

The moral is: sometimes people should be put first rather than saving a few pounds. Money cannot buy happiness, love and security. All she wants to do is live out her life in the house she was born in.

Is that too much to ask?

– David Walker, Lydney.
