PUPILS from two schools came together to build a life-size replica of the command module used on the historic Moon landing mission.

The module – which was part of the Apollo 11 mission in 1969 – was created by members of the St White’s University at St White’s Primary School in Cinderford working with students from Dene Magna School in Mitcheldean.

Among the guests at the ‘launch’ last Friday was the head of the UK Space Agency, Peter Finn.

St White’s University member Lydia Saunders said: “Year Six pupils from St White’s Primary School, including myself, meet every Friday afternoon to enhance our learning on our topic – space.

“We are creating a moon landing experience for the rest of the Year Fives and Sixes that will increase their knowledge on the Apollo 11.

“We are creating a life-size Apollo 11 command module in partnership with Dene Magna School.”

He added: “It is a unique project that can inspire and amaze everyone in our local community.”
