MARIE Fraser Griffiths and her family were watching television on Sunday at their home in Bream Road opposite Lydney Hospital when there was a great explosion outside and a white flash filled the sitting room with light.

"We looked out of the window at the double power line poles just beyond our property and there was smoke pouring from halfway up the poles," she said.

"We called Western Power Distribution who quickly sent a team led by a Mr Cook (he wishes to remain almost anonymous!).

"I'm sending a picture of Mr Cook and one dead squirrel. He said it had climbed up, touched a live wire and had blown a very large fuse! The poor squirrel was electrocuted.

"The team efficiently removed the burnt-out fuse and replaced it with a new one, so the power was restored within less than half an hour.

"I'd like to say a big thank you to Western Power Distribution."
