MUCH has been said about overseas aid but when you see where the money appears on the ‘tax pie’ list, it comes about 14th and the EU budget 15th.
Welfare spending comes first, followed by health, state pensions, education, national debt interest and defence.
The problem is that when you give a certain amount of money away – to any cause – then any government does not want to appear too ‘callous’ by reducing it for any reason.
We will just have to see what the next few years bring and how much debt has been reduced – or not – before we look at controlling any ‘wasted’ aid payments.
