GREETINGS from Down Under.

My cousin Mrs Evelyn Smith of St Whites Road, Cinderford, sent me a cutting of the photograph and editorial of The Palace (Review, dated April 1) and what memories they evoked!

I am the young girl at the front of the queue facing the camera (Angela Phelps of Church Road); my cousin, Robert Page, is just in front of me and my brother Alan Phelps can just be seen at the pay kiosk. I well remember Mr Wallace as the manager in those days. Incidentally the photograph would have been taken nearer 1946/47 than 1950.

My grandmother was Nurse Bertha Burris, the local midwife in Cinderford, and I can well relate to the projectionist often flashing a message on the screen for a call out for her.

Also, on page 20 of the same edition, is a photograph of my brother Alan (as mentioned above) a member of the Tan?House singers presenting a cheque to the League of Friends.

Finally I was interested to read Mr and Mrs Lougher have bought the house next to the cinema. As a small child I lived there before my parents Edwin and Mabel Phelps and grandmother Nurse Burris moved to Church Road.

Oh what memories!
