LYDNEY residents are encouraged to bring their litter to a ‘trash converter van’ in Bathhurst Park on Tuesday, May 16 in exchange for a treat served from the van.
The event is part of a campaign called Love Your Forest, which aims to work with residents and visitors to reduce the amount of litter dropped in the area.
Chair of the Bathurst Park and Recreation Trust, Cllr Harry Ives, said: “The mayor of Lydney will also be present given the ongoing challenges presented by litter in the park.”
Love your Forest is seeking to find creative ways to tackle the issue of rural litter and states that 250 tonnes of rubbish are removed for the Forest of Dean each year, at a cost to local taxpayers of £400,000.
The campaign has also included a pop-up ‘Litter shop of horrors’ and ‘Communitree’ faces made by children and hung around the Forest.
The van will be stationed at Bathurst Park between 11am and noon before heading to Lydney’s Dean Academy.
