YOUR editorial asks whether politicians should seek re-election if they leave their party. Sometimes a person can feel that their party leaves them.

I am not talking about the particular case of Forest independents. Every political party that has ever changed tack, particularly when they get into power somewhere, will disappoint some of those that supported them. It is far easier to be all things to all people when you are not called upon to make hard decisions.

It is dishonest for a politican to go against the values that got them elected and expect to stay in office, and party allegiance is a badge that helps identify values.

But we vote for people not parties. We elect individuals and we shouldn't be surprised or disappointed when they act individually. – David Roman, Laburnam Way, Chepstow.
