NOTHING surprises me any longer about the disreputableness of the present British government. No sooner does the story of the Gurkhas unfold than I read about the threatened litigation by HM Revenue and Customs against the trustees (including my distinguished and honourable cousin, Brian Morgan) of Lydbrook Church of the Holy Jesus.
The Revenue Commissioners demand from the Trustees of Lydbrook Church (while ignoring the depredations of politicians and bankers) the sum of £18,446 within 30 days. The church was apparently faced with the possibility of closing down. The Church of England (despite Gordon Brown's efforts) is still the established Church of England. It is the duty of an elected British government to support the Church of England, not to persecute it. – Gerald Morgan (Lydbrook School; English Parliamentary Party).
