Work has begun to install residents in Parkend with a new £200,000 water pipe.

Temporary traffic lights were put in place on Monday so that Severn Trent Water could start replacing the pipe on New Road.

However, due to the scale of the project the road will be fully closed in the Bream direction from next Monday (November 11) until the end of the month. A diversion will be in place.

The work is being carried after Severn Trent Water detected a leak on a large water pipe last month and further inspections showed that the pipe was "beyond repair and needed replacing."

Severn Trent Water's programme manager, Jonathan Tait explained: "To make sure that our customers' water supply isn't affected, we're investing £200,000 to install a large new water pipe in Parkend. Work to replace the pipe is now underway and is expected to be complete by mid-December.

"Because the A48 was being resurfaced we held off on our work to help to minimise disruption to the local community. We're now working quickly to install large new replacement pipe. While we do this, traffic lights will continue to be in place on the New Road and we will need to close the road – in the Bream direction – from Monday 11 November until the end of the month. Diversion routes have been organised and we're working together with Gloucestershire Highways, the parish council and local businesses, to keep them up-to-date on our progress. We appreciate that this may frustrating and we'd like to thank residents for their ongoing patience and understanding."
