PROPOSALS to open a new takeaway in Cinderford have raised a few eyebrows among residents.

Ben Bowker of BB Design Services, in Abergavanney, has submitted an application to the council on behalf of Mr Hasan Saritag to convert the former Scott's Shoes shop into a takeaway restaurant. However, this has caused some residents to question if the town really needs another one.

If planners give the go-ahead the takeaway would be open all day every day and become the latest to rival the 12 restaurants and takeaways that is already in the town.

A regular Cinderford shopper, who didn't wish to be named, said: "The last thing Cinderford needs is another takeaway. The town needs something that will give people living outside the area a reason to come here – I don't think another takeaway will achieve that."

There has been an unconfirmed report that the proposed signage for the takeaway is Pick a Pizza. The agent working on behalf of Mr Saritag declined to comment.
