THE county police force is remaining tight-lipped about any changes it may have to make following the announcement of a £1m cut in its grant allocation for 2010.
In response to an inquiry about the likely impact on the Forest area the police stated: "The Constabulary is evaluating the implication of this cut and of future potential cuts to funding such as the freeze on council tax increases for
2011-12.
"A grant reduction in-year is unprecedented, but the Constabulary is confident that it can cope with this cut in the short term."
Chief Constable Tony Melville, who took over the force earlier this year, said: "This is an extraordinary situation we find ourselves in.
"However I know everyone in the Gloucestershire Constabulary will work tirelessly to keep people safe from harm and deliver a police service people can have confidence in across the county."
The £1m cut represents around one per cent of the force's annual budget.
