DURING February notices appeared near Parkend Van Centre: "Work to be carried out' on this road from March 9-20."
Hooray, I cried – at last Gloucestershire Highways are going to repair the road. We will have a spanking new surface to drive on.
Um, no! – sadly we have to carry on doing the pothole swerve, lines of cars doing the conga from Parkend to Whitecroft, drivers cringing as their wheels crash into a pothole or raised cover they failed to spot.
Sadly the aforementioned 'work' consisted of a few reflective posts stuck into the verge.
I have e-mailed Highways to ask why taxpayers' money has been wasted on a few posts.
I fear, however that the response will be the same as previously, i.e. zip, zilch, zero, nada, nothing – which, come to think of it, is what they're good at. – W. Wylde (via email).
