MONMOUTH MP David Davies visited council workers at Tintern as they prepared the village for expected flooding as the Wye rose last week.

The main road through Tintern was closed for 20 minutes either side of high tide.

Mr Davies said: "Council workers are doing their utmost to keep residents safe and to minimise the extent of damage caused by the storm surge.

"Obviously nobody can hold back the tides but I was told some people have been working up to 17 hours at a time to ensure drains remain clear, as well as issuing sandbags."

Monmouth Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has written to the Welsh minister for natural resources, Alun Davies, for Monmouthshire Council to receive extra money to deal with the aftermath of flooding.
