DEAN Forest Voice, the pressure group which has signed up 1,000 members in a year, this week unveiled its own structure plan for the Dean based on concentrating industry at Lydney and linking the three towns with a commuter rail network.

A 12 point plan has been issued for consultation and has been sent to The Countryside Agency which is designing an "integrated rural development programme" especially for the Dean.

In a statement to the Review a DFV spokesman said that while its own structure plan was by no means complete or comprehensive it was at least a start.

"We hope everyone will find things in it they like and can support and we encourage everyone in the Forest to get behind this initiative and try to make it work. This is a chance to have your say.

"It will need a lot more input to get it right, and it will not happen overnight, but together we may be able to lay the foundations for a better future for our youngsters and that must surely be worth the effort," he said.

The 12-point strategy is contained in an 18 page document which Dean Forest Voice plans to introduce to members of all local parish councils at a special meeting later this month.

They say they believe the Forest requires a structure plan designed exclusively for the area. It should, they believe, replace the District Plan and be designed from the heart of the Forest outwards. The aim should be to project the Forest in a totally different light based on its uniqueness.
