AS I am a carp angler, I was interested in the write up and photo published in the Review of Yorkley Angling Club and fishing at Redhill Fisheries, Monmouth, that is, until I noticed something. Not one unhooking mat was in sight on any of the pictures. A lot of the pegs had gravel tops and two of the pictures showed fish lying just in weigh sacks on top of the gravel, but worse still, what looked like a small mirror carp actually lying on the gravel. At most well run fisheries, an unhooking mat is compulsory to prevent damage leading to diseases for the fish. Perhaps Redhill Fisheries and Yorkley Angling Club should revise their dos and don'ts as the welfare of the fish must come first and not the ego of an angler out to win a prize regardless of the damage he or she may do to the fish. – B.
