THE history of Lydney’s pubs and local scenes, which have returned to the artist’s former school, were among the interesting items on display at the town’s community centre.
More than 80 people went to Lydney Community Centre as it opened its doors for Heritage Days.
Mrs Ruth Millard has donated some of the works painted by her husband James to the centre which they both attended when it was Lydney County Primary School.
She said: “We both came to school here so it is appropriate that the paintings come back here.”
Marie Fraser Griffiths has traced the history of 23 of the town’s pubs and clubs, some of which disappeared many years ago and some of which are still with us.
She said: “It’s been wonderful to hear the stories people have and it’s also been an opportunity to gather more information about the pubs.”
The pubs are: Severn View, Step Aside, Royal Albert, Greyhound, Highland Inn, Annexe, The Bridge, The Fleece, The Swan, The Rifleman’s, The Railway, British Legion, Police Club, Forester’s Arms, Queen’s Head, Feathers Hotel, Cross Keys, Railway Hotel, Yacht Club, King’s Bar, Harry’s Bar and the Severn Bridge.
Derek Biddle of Lydney Community Centre said: “We’ve had more than 80 people come and they’ve been sharing their memories of the town.”
