A PLANNED ‘cut throat’ razor shave took a twist when staff announced it wanted to donate £90 of their tips to the Great Oaks Hospice.
Owner of the newly-opened Barber’s Lounge – which is part of Nails, Hair and Beauty in Cinderford – Lynda Searancke said the idea was ‘really thoughtful’.
She said: “The barber’s lounge only opened a month ago but the staff have already received £90 in tips. There was talk that they wanted to donate it to charity but then nothing more was said. When I mentioned that the town’s mayor, Max Coborn, volunteered to have a ‘cut throat’ razor shave they surprised me with the news that they had chosen a charity to support. It’s a really thoughtful idea.”
Mr Coborn visited the salon to promote the service which is believed to be unavailable elsewhere in the Forest of Dean.
Lynda: “It’s great Max was willing to put his neck close to the blade for the gentlemen of Cinderford.
“Max was aware that Norma Little was retiring following 10 years hairdressing in the high street so enquired as to what may happen to the premises. When we in Nails and Beauty explained that we are about to extend into both Norma’s two floors with the additional services we invited him to be involved.”
Lynda added: “We discussed the possible charities, and on our shortlist we felt the most deserving local cause was that which helped the terminally ill who would not wish to be in a Gloucester environment having lived in the Forest. For them being in Great Oaks is the next best thing to being at home and palliative care is at hand.”
