A RENEWABLE energy company based in the Forest is in a race against time to complete the largest solar roof in the UK.
Bee Green Energy has until July 29 to finish fitting 3,906 photo voltaic panels to the roof of a 31,000 square metre warehouse in Mitcheldean before the government cuts the feed-in tariffs paid for solar power.
Rosie Le Seelleur of Bee Green, which is based in the Vantage Point Business Village, says: "We're on a very tight deadline, it is going to go right up to the line."
The panels need to be inspected and passed by July 29, beating the tarriff cuts scheduled for August 1.
Rosie explained finishing the roof – a £2m project – and starting to generate electricity will mean the difference between getting a feed-in tarriff of 30.7p per kilowatt or 8.5p.
"It's the difference between making it sustainable or not."
Once up and running the panels will generate about half of Vantage Point's energy need and enable over 100 businesses to receive clean and renewable energy.
• The cut in tarriff's will mean that Bee Green will most likely transfer its focus from solar power projects to wind energy.
