THE Gloucester and District Autograss Club held a presentation evening at the Water Board Club in Cinderford.

Autograss is a non-contact motorsport that takes place on a natural soil oval track of about 400 metres and the Gloucester club meets regularly at Elton Corner.

There are many classes of cars used from the fairly standard mini to cars with the lovely sounding V8 to amazing vehicles fitted with motorbike engines – some even have two bike engines. Then there are the "specials" -– space framed single seater vehicles which need to be seen to be appreciated. Each race is four to eight laps of the track and up to eight cars line up on the start line.

Gloucester and District and the Forest of Dean Autograss clubs share the track at Elton.

"We are not far from the filling station so look out for the signs on race days," said a spokesman.

"We always plan four race dates but only use three out of the four so please check our Facebook sites or web sites to confirm racing. It is best to do this the day before racing – thanks to English weather."

The next planned date is April 9.

"It is very much a family sport and during the 2011 season Gloucester and District had Chris Lane his daughter Jo Lane and his twin grandsons Ryan and Jordan Taylor all racing at Elton, said the spokesman. "Many other clubs can boast three generations of racers giving the sport a real family feel.

"The sport is not all centered on us – we as a club raise many hundreds of pounds for charity each year."
