CHILDREN across the Forest of Dean are doing their bit for the environment this Easter by recycling their Easter egg foil packaging.

Taurus Crafts, in Lydney, is working with the Forest of Dean Council to help service the foil banks in the area. The group is asking children to save all the foil packaging from their Easter eggs, to boost recycling rates and help raise funds for the group.

Ruth Meeke, Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation (Alupro) programme manager, said: “Recycling Easter egg foil and other aluminium packaging is easy – just rinse any items like foil trays and take all of your recycling to one of the recycling banks in the Forest of Dean.

“Recycling aluminium and other metal packaging delivers big environmental benefits – metal packaging can be recycled again and again, with no loss of quality, saving over 95 per cent of the energy used to make it from raw material.”

Among the recycling banks are: Co-op car park, Dockham Road, Cinderford, Pavilion Road, Beachley, Railway Drive Car Park, Coleford, and Newerne Street Car Park, Lydney.

Taurus Crafts helps adults with learning disabilities to work with local businesses, schools and clubs to collect and process aluminium foil to raise funds for the community group.

The Forest council arranges for the banks to be serviced and the contents are then delivered to Taurus Crafts who sort and compact the aluminium before it is sold for recycling.

The aluminium foil is melted down and is re-used to make items such as engine parts.
