AND so the new kerbside recycling scheme has started and most households have now been motivated into participating, recycling paper, glass, cans and now food waste.

With general waste now being collected every two weeks many households have taken the step to also recycle cardboard, juice cartons and also plastic bottles and will have noticed just how much this reduces the overall amount of general waste created.

How frustrating then when visiting the recycling centres for the latter items, particularly the one at Newerne Street in Lydney, to find the receptacles full to overflowing. The notices asking you not to leave items outside are fine but when are the council going to realise that the public will get fed up with a wasted journey unless they are regularly emptied, particularly at the weekend when most people recycle.
