OBJECTORS to a new plan for a park and ride development on a site at Elton Corner are being invited to go to the pub this week.

Organisers of RAGE – Residents Against Greedy Exploitation – are meeting at the Red Lion in Westbury-on-Severn this Thursday (7.30pm) and will welcome anyone who wants to find out more about the scheme.

"If people want to find out more and join us by filling in letters of objection we would be delighted to see them," said press officer Elaine Jesnik.

Ms Jesnik said that the new proposals were no different from the previous application which had been withdrawn at short notice.

In a statement RAGE says:"As Railtrack have again declared no interest in this scheme, it is clear that the intentions behind this application have not changed. Showing complete disregard that the site is on agricultural land in open countryside, it is obvious the developer and his backers have no real interest in a rail station except to exploit possible residential/commercial and industrial development extending up to nearly 30 acres."

The objectors are organising a leaflet campaign and urging local people to send letters of opposition to the district council.

"It is contrary to the county structure plan and Rail Track are not interested as they say the scheme is not viable," said Ms Jesnik.
