The council undertook a major PR exercise last week to push the flawed Northern Arc development as all but ready to proceed when there are a number of major issues to be resolved before any development can proceed.

The current planning application is one of these issues and relates to the council demolition of some of the last remaining mining heritage buildings in the Dean at Northern United which also house colonies of lesser horseshoe bats.

Politicians generally consider that one concerned letter from a constituent regarding a major issue means that there are 10 times that number equally concerned but have been too busy to respond.

In his article Cllr Molyneux said the council wants to be led by the people.  If there is an overwhelming response we will have to take it on board.

Well if you visit the council's rather turgid website and search under 'planning' you will find over 90 letters of complaint from concerned people who have found the time to write and directly challenge the current council planning application for destruction of buildings, loss of wildlife and quiet amenity in this special place.

On this basis there are many hundreds of people asking that this ill-thought planning proposal and subsequent spine road should not proceed on this site.

So, Mr Molyneux, how many people does it take for the council to act on the peoples' will?
