THIS letter is directed at the person who ran over and killed a much loved family pet, Tog, on Church Road, Cinderford on Tuesday, April 30.

Whilst I appreciate that it may not always be easy to avoid an animal which runs out into the road, I cannot comprehend the callous attitude of a person who, knowing what they have done, drives away leaving it dying in the street.

Did you not stop for one second to think that the family who owned this cat might have children living nearby? How would they have felt if it had been them who found him?

I suppose I must be grateful that it wasn't one of my children you hit and left lying in the middle of the road.

In writing this letter, it might also be worthwhile mentioning that, despite appearances, Church Road is not the Brands Hatch of the Forest, and it is not essential to drive from one end to the other at 80mph. The residents of Church Road have pets and families and would very much like to keep it that way.

Finally, I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to the lady who did care enough to stop and take Tog to the vet, and then bothered to come back to find out to whom he belonged. Although very upset to lose their pet, my children are grateful to you for caring and trying to help him. Thank you. – Caroline Hale, Church Road, Cinderford.
