A FOREST teenager's car was written off just 48 hours after she bought it in an incident on the approach to Monmouth.

Martha Hamilton, from Lydbrook, had only bought her Nissan Micra on Thursday when she was hit on Saturday (June 22) at 5pm. The oncoming vehicle, who was allegedly speeding, hit the right hand side of her vehicle as she was approaching the last sharp bend past the Kymin on the A4136.

Witnesses told her that a Y reg blue Audi A3 or A4 model went into the side of Martha's car.

The 19-year-old, who was on her way to meet a friend in Monmouth, was driving alone.

She said: "I have been left so shook up that I fear getting behind the wheel.

"I can't remember that much about the accident because it happened so quickly but witnesses say that the driver was male and was travelling at a ridiculous speed both prior to hitting me and driving off – I am grateful it wasn't a lot worse.

"I was travelling down the hill and remember slowing down as I approached the last sharp bend before you hit the straight road towards the bottom of the hill. As I drove around the bend a car from nowhere was on my side of the road and hit the right hand side of my car. They lost their wing mirror but this didn't bother them as they drove off."

Martha was taken to the Dilke Hospital in

Cinderford for minor bruising and added: "I am put off driving and I am not sure if I will get over it. My car is a write-off but I was fortunate that the couple who were driving behind me stopped and drove me home. I really hope somebody with more information comes forward so that this doesn't happen again and perhaps end up with worse consequences," she added.

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said two cars travelling in opposite directions had a minor

collision. A car was on the other side of the road and there was damage only.
