A CACTUS which Rosina Pearce of Ruardean Woodside has been bringing on from a little pincushion has turned into a statuesque beauty covered in flowers.

"I don't know what sort it is," she told the Review. "It's just something I took up as a sort of hobby. Now I've got lots of them, around 34."

Pensioner Rosina, 75 and her husband Renf, 77, who used to work at Ranks, raise the plants in a sun lounge outside their home.

"He mostly looks after the flowers and the lawn," she said.

"Some people tell me I ought to put the cactus plants in a show. I'd have a bit of a job getting this one to a show. And somebody might sit on it, which wouldn't do them a lot of good!

"Anyway it would be hard getting cactus plants ready for a show – they would all flower at the wrong time."
