I WAS driving from Coleford to Parkend station on the B4431 crossroads on Monday, August 18 at approximately 10am.

Just over two miles from Coleford there is a sharp right-hand bend, approaching which I change down a gear and brake slightly.

Almost all the way round the bend I was confronted by a Transit-type vehicle on my side of the road trying to overtake a slow-moving vehicle (a tractor, I think) approaching a sharp, blind left-hand bend on his wrong side of the road.

I stamped on the brake pedal harder than ever before in my long years of driving, wondering how much damage the front of my car would sustain.

Luckily, with excellent anti-lock brakes, I stopped in time.

The driver of this Transit-type vehicle then manoeuvred onto his correct side of the road which is not very wide for two lanes of traffic at the best of times.

I expressed my opinion of his driving but noticed him laughing to his passengers (two, I think).

I have had words with the Coleford police and I saw two if not three vehicles behind this Transit on the correct side of the road and wonder how much of this incident they witnessed.

– Lucky driver, Coleford.
