PHILIPPA Barter may not have a personal invite to the Royal wedding but a number of her creations are certain to be attending.

Philippa, who works alone using a single sewing machine, is making four outfits for royal wedding guests, women who range from the age of 30 upwards.

All but one of them are regular clients who go to Philippa for their outfits for the social season from Badminton and Royal Ascot to summer balls and high society weddings.

The Monmouth-based designer and dressmaker works from her Osbaston home, the base for her haute couture business for 14 years.

Normally each garment takes her about three months to complete but as many of the guests didn't get their invitations until very recently she has had to squeeze them into her busy work schedule.

Philippa said: "I've been creating designs for over 28 years and all my work like this is a unique and individual, they are all one offs.

"Without giving too much away, there is a set dress code for the royal wedding so I have come up with some classic designs with a subtle twist suitable for the event.

"However these royal wedding outfits are on top of my normal workload so I am now working twice as long as usual, often well into the night to get them completed. For me it's a big responsibility to get it right."

Ten years ago Philippa's white leather wedding dress and jacket won her the top prize in the 2001 British Bridal Awards with two other of her designs reaching the semi finals.

Philippa started her couture business from a flat in Monmouth's Priory Street before spending much of the 1980s living in the Middle East gaining experience in fine silks. Her creations are now being worn the world over by television and film personalities and even royalty.

Philippa is not concerned that she did not get her invite to Prince William and Kate's wedding.

"I shall be glued to the television on the day of the royal wedding to see if I can spot my garments on show. It has been a privilege to be asked to provide people with their outfits for such a special day."
