DESPITE hundreds of complaints about delays in rubbish collections following the Christmas and New Year period everything is running as predicted, says the man in charge of the operation.
And Mr Amir Razvi says even the delays caused by two days of severe icing on the roads following a heavy snowfall before Christmas were quickly overcome.
"I just wish that people had either kept the notice we sent out about revised collection times, or cut out the advertisements we put in local newspapers," he said.
"If they kept to these times then everything would be fine by now. Instead many people have left bags and bins out on the wrong days and animals have caused problems breaking into them overnight."
H e said that the last of the special collection arrangements organised for the holiday period would be completed by January 24 when everything would revert to normal pre-Christmas arrangements.
However the number of complaints had taken the council by surprise and it was going to make special arrangements, including a 'bin hotline', for future holiday collection arrangements or if collections were affected by bad weather or other disruptions.
"People will be able to ring and get a clear indication when the collector is coming round," Mr Razvi said.
The number would be publicised so that everyone could keep it in a safe place for reference.
The council's planned collections over the Christmas period were thrown into disarray when snowfall caught gritters by surprise and left Forest roads icy for up to three days.
The council said at the time that it was unable to let the collection lorries go out for the safety of both the operators and the public.
