A WOMAN who survived a horrific Hallowe’en collision with a 32-tonne tipper truck near Lydney 15 years ago is holding a charity Christmas sale on Saturday (October 21) to raise funds for Gloucestershire Eye Therapy Trust.

Andrea Smith, from Coleford, said: “On Hallowe’en 2002 I was involved in a serious road traffic accident at Bream Avenue and, after time in intensive care and on neurology wards, my main injury was serious nerve damage to both eyes.

“It resulted in severe double vision and damaged sight. It was so bad that doctors didn’t see much hope for repair and it’s not likely I will drive again but, although I face a future of treatment and surgery, I am as good as I can be.

“My aim is to help fund Gloucestershire Eye Therapy Trust, which then helps fund vital research and equipment. We’ve just helped Cheltenham Hospital to open a new and well-equipped eye ward.

“I run an online charity shop and every year, I sell donated gifts and decorations, before people go out Christmas shopping, at bargain prices. I’m also running a raffle with great prizes.”

The Christma charity bonanza runs from 11am to 3pm at Sixteen Community Cafe in Coleford.
