THE headteacher of the Forest High School in Cinderford, John Whitehead, has resigned following a period of illness.

Mr Whitehead has been unable to work because of illness and has now submitted his resignation .

Chief executive of the SGS Trust, which runs the school, Mr Kevin Hamblin, said: "The Board has reluctantly accepted his resignation, and we have begun the process of working to secure his successor.

"We are delighted with how the Senior Leadership Team have stepped up during his recent absence and so the decision has been made to ask them to continue to lead the school, with the support of our DCEO, Stephen Miles, while our search for a replacement concludes.

"On behalf of the Trust and Local School Board we would like to place on record our thanks and good wishes to John."
