THEY reckon you can spend an age waiting for the bus you want, only to have a mob of them all come along at once – but as surprises go this one takes the biscuit.

Seeing one white deer is shock enough when you walk in the woods, but when you see four at once it's hard to believe your eyes.

Bream reader Simon Gwynne spotted this quartet in woodland near the railway line at Parkend.

"I was walking my dogs when I came across a herd of deer, possibly 20 or more, and among them were these white ones," he tells us.

Mr Gwynne says he has seen one white deer before but the sight of four left him in awe.

Forestry Commission wildlife ranger Simon Holloway told the Review the animals had possibly strayed from Lydney Park Estate where there were known to be a number of white deer. They were not true albinos. White deer did occur in ones and twos but he thought four were quite rare!
