THE Forest has done it again, this time for local author Cheryl Mayo of Blakeney.
Writing under the pen name of CR Burman, Cheryl has published the third book in her fantasy trilogy, The Danae of the Forest.
The books tell of Callie, a young girl of the Danae people, and her fight to save her forest home from invaders who would destroy it to fuel the ambitions of an empire-building Madach lord from across the oceans.
Cheryl was, and still is, actively involved in the 2010 campaign to save public forests from being sold off.
“One day, after the worst of it was over, I was walking the dog in the autumnal forest and the idea came to me. It took root and, rather like brambles, began to grow and grow, until it filled three books,” she said.
Cheryl says: “A local friend who read the first draft declared it to be an allegory and asked me who the Madach were. There are, of course, contenders for the role, but the purpose of the books are to entertain, and they appear to have done that for a wide range of readers.”
Originally aimed at young adults, Cheryl has found a fan club amongst people aged from 12 to 70. You can read about all three books on Cheryl’s author site, www.crburman.com.
The books, published by Solidus, are available in hard copy and as e-books on Amazon.
